Thank you for purchasing the Sonic Foundry 5.1 Surround Plug-In Pack. This document contains information about installing and using the 5.1 Surround Plug-In Pack on your computer.
The 5.1 Surround Plug-In Pack includes the Sonic Foundry AC-3 encoder and the Sonic Foundry AC-3 DVD Burner. You can use the AC-3 encoder to encode stereo and surround AC-3 files, the Sonic Foundry AC-3 DVD Burner allows you to burn your AC-3 audio files to DVD.
Rendering AC-3 Files
When rendering AC-3 files, use one of the default rendering templates whenever possible (Stereo and 5.1 Surround are the default templates). Deviating from the standard settings can produce a file that will not load or play properly in your destination application or device. A description of each rendering template is displayed in the Description box in the Render As dialog.
For information about each control in the AC-3 encoder, select the item and press Shift+F1.
If you have a USB SmartMedia reader device installed on your PC, you may experience problems when you attempt to access your DVD drive from AC-3 DVD Burner. This is due to an error in the SmartMedia reader driver. Removing the reader should allow AC-3 DVD Burner to function normally.
There is a bug with the Save as Intel byte order check box in the AC-3 encoder: the encoder incorrectly saves Intel byte order when the check box is not selected and saves Motorola byte order when the check box is selected. If your authoring software rejects your AC-3 files due to a byte-order error, please reverse the setting of the Save as Intel byte order check box and rerender. This will be resolved in the next update of the AC-3 encoder.
